A while ago I wrote a web tool that generates a BGP configuration based on you filling out a simple form. I recently incorporated it into the Orion Technology Website. This should cover most basic configs(your router, pulling feeds from two upstream providers), while providing enough information to easily extend the configuration beyond the provided information.

The world is full of software given away by companies, and much of it is very good. In order to defray costs or turn a profit on software package X, Many companies sell tag along privileges to another company that has a software package(Usually browser toolbars) they want to get out into the world. I regularly get asked why Internet Explorer takes up so much screen space, when the only problem is the user has a toolbar for Bing, Google, Yahoo, Ask, and Facebook installed. These toolbars are not an issue necessarily, but if you use and like Yahoo, you probably do not want a toolbar for Bing or Google. And when you have five or six different toolbars running, that can take up resources(screen real-estate, memory) you would rather not waste on things you don’t use.
Thankfully, The carrier programs clearly label “Would you like X?” in the installation process. And they give you the option to say “No, do not install this”. If you read the steps in the installation before clicking Next, you can disable installation of this widget or that gadget. Or, you will at least know what just got installed along with the software you wanted to install.
